Julien Remillieux is a sports physiotherapist specializing in cycling and climbing, widely followed on social networks ( @climbexercices_kinechambery) , and a climber himself (8a on a cliff!).
He regularly accompanies climbers from the Chambéry Escalade Club, as well as the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale cycling team.
Today, Julien is looking to develop training on climbing pathologies for physiotherapists, and another for coaches.
Recognized for his expertise, he also wishes to offer more remote support and advice, for climbers living elsewhere than in Savoie.
Julien shares his vision of climbing with us:
"My name is Julien Remillieux, I am 30 years old and I am a sports physiotherapist. I grew up in Moselle, I then studied in Nancy and I now live in Chambéry. With two teaching parents including my father sports teacher I have practiced several sports competitively apart from climbing (notably tennis, judo, trail running). I am passionate about sports but more generally I like learning new things, a little in everything. areas.”
"When I was in high school I hesitated for a long time, I was curious and attracted by very varied environments. My older brother had started studying physiotherapy and as I learned more I quickly felt attracted to this profession. J I had also had the experience of being with a physiotherapist several times as a patient and I quite liked it. Today I am very happy with this choice."
"I graduated in 2015, I first worked in different regions and practices doing replacements before settling in Chambéry in 2019. I then looked for a sports physiotherapy practice where I felt good and I moved there in 2022.”
"When I passed my physiotherapy diploma it was a period when I climbed very regularly. I did a thesis on the prevention of pulley injuries and I loved this subject. From that moment on, I had in mind to take care of climbing patients once I am established, which I was quickly able to set up in Chambéry.
For cycling I got into it later, it was initially more my partner's world. Just after our sports physiotherapist diploma (my partner is also a physiotherapist), we were able to join the staff of a cycling team and we trained in the postural study of the cyclist. We continue to evolve in this environment by working since the beginning of 2023 for the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale team.
I appreciate being able to be in contact with high-level athletes, including cycling, this also allows me to diversify my practice even more. I think it’s important and I don’t really like routine. "
"I don't remember it precisely because I started very young with my parents as well as my older brother who practices it assiduously. On the other hand, I had periods where I climbed more or less. My student period is when I climbed the most while doing competitions and reaching a level 8a on cliffs. Then I took a break for a few years where I ran a lot to do ultra trails like the “Diagonale des fous”.
Since I have been in Chambéry, I have been less strenuous in one or the other discipline and I have a more “leisure” practice. "
"Not easy! As a physiotherapist I think it was the thanks of a patient that touched me a lot when I was still a student during an internship. I then realized the importance what could this job have.
In the field of climbing, I have great memories of the Senior European Climbing Cup in Chambéry in 2023 for which I was able to be physiotherapist, provide some care and meet great people. "
"It is without a doubt the French university championships in which I participated in Tours in 2014. I had done the difficulty and speed test, I had trained a lot for this competition and after a satisfactory result in diff' I had been the last qualifier in the final speed phase. I had faced Thomas Joannes in the quarter-final and I felt privileged and happy to be able to try to compete with a climber who already had a reputation. I gave it my all without pressure and I have great memories of this moment and the atmosphere, but no need to reveal the result!
"Today we cannot neglect the importance and impact of social networks. This is why when I wanted to reach more climbers I quickly got on Instagram even though I didn't even have an account active staff Without a doubt it was useful to me and I try to continue to publish regularly. On the other hand, you have to be very careful about what you say to be sure that the information given is well understood. "it cannot be diverted. It is not always obvious!
"Experiencing your sport better also means knowing your body better. You must know how to adapt your practice, take the time to progress, be aware of your abilities and make choices in line with your objectives. All with the aim of healthy practice (for the body and mind!) while minimizing the risk of short and long term injuries.
"I like all outdoor activities. I currently practice trail running and cycling in particular, and very occasionally mountaineering or canyoning. Apart from that, I really like doing DIY around wood, with furniture for my home. me or even tools for the office!”
"I have a lot of ideas but not necessarily the time to do everything! My next big project is to develop training for physiotherapists on climbing pathologies, for the end of 2024 / beginning of 2025. I would also like to propose a different version for coaches. In the near future I would also like to be able to offer more remote support and advice because I think that if done well, it can be very relevant.
